Job Title: Product Design Engineer (Mechanical)
Location: On-site – Syracuse, NY
Job Type: Full-time, direct hire
Salary Range: $73,000 – $126,000 Annually, depending on experience
About the Role
A manufacturing-focused organization is seeking a Product Design Engineer (Mechanical) to support custom, sold-order engineering projects. This role is responsible for developing mechanical designs, producing detailed CAD documentation, and supporting projects from initial concept through fabrication and delivery. The position operates in a fast-paced, collaborative engineering environment and requires close coordination with project management, manufacturing, and external partners.
In addition to core mechanical design responsibilities, this role may support related technical tasks as business needs require.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical engineering support, including design calculations and compliance with applicable specifications, codes, and standards
- Develop, modify, and maintain 2D drawings and 3D CAD models for customer approval and internal manufacturing use
- Support custom, engineered-to-order projects from concept through fabrication
- Collaborate closely with project management to track schedules, document progress, and support delivery milestones
- Communicate with internal stakeholders and external partners regarding design status, changes, and technical requirements
- Generate, maintain, and update accurate bills of materials (BOMs)
- Work cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, vendors, and subcontractors to support project execution
- Maintain clear, organized engineering documentation throughout the design and development lifecycle
- Perform additional engineering or technical tasks as assigned
Qualifications
Education
- Associate degree in a technical or engineering-related discipline, or equivalent hands-on experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred
Experience
- 3–5 years of mechanical design experience in a manufacturing or engineered-to-order environment preferred
Technical Skills
- Hands-on experience with CAD tools
- Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor strongly preferred
- Experience with SolidWorks a plus
- Working knowledge of mechanical systems and manufacturing processes
- Experience generating and maintaining BOMs
- Prior exposure to ERP systems in a manufacturing environment preferred
