Job Title: Director of IT, Infrastructure (Hands-On)
Location: Liverpool, NY
Job Type: Full-time, direct hire
Salary Range: $120,000 – $140,000 annually, depending on experience

About the Role:

We are seeking a hands-on Director of IT to lead our infrastructure team while actively contributing to the design, implementation, and optimization of our network and cloud environments. This is a dual-role opportunity combining leadership with deep technical involvement. You will guide a team of engineers, manage key infrastructure initiatives, and ensure our systems are secure, scalable, and high-performing.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and mentor a team of infrastructure engineers; provide guidance, feedback, and professional development.

• Architect and implement robust infrastructure solutions across Azure, on-premise systems, and network platforms.

• Manage IT infrastructure projects from start to finish, ensuring timelines, budgets, and goals are met.

• Develop and enforce infrastructure standards, security protocols, and automation strategies.

• Oversee system administration of servers (physical and virtual), firewalls, switches, VPNs, and other critical infrastructure.

• Troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues and maintain detailed documentation for resolution and training.

• Identify and implement new technologies to enhance system performance and efficiency.

• Collaborate with executive leadership to align IT infrastructure with business goals.

Qualifications:

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)

Experience:

• 10+ years of progressive IT infrastructure experience

• 5+ years in a leadership or management role

• Strong history of project ownership and team mentorship in fast-paced settings

Technical Skills:

• Deep expertise in Azure cloud services and virtualization platforms (e.g., Nutanix)

• Strong networking knowledge (TCP/IP, DNS, BGP, VPN, VLANs, SD-WAN)

• Experience with firewall configuration and management

• Proficiency in scripting/automation (e.g., PowerShell)

• Familiarity with RDBMS environments and system performance tuning

Certifications (preferred):

• Microsoft Azure certifications

• Network or security certifications (e.g., CCNA, CISSP)

Soft Skills:

• Strong leadership and communication skills

• Collaborative mindset with a hands-on approach

• Ability to manage priorities across technical and business teams
