Job Title: Functional Business Analyst – Enterprise ERP Systems
Location: Central New York
Job Type: Full-time, direct hire
Salary Range: annually depending on experience

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Functional Business Analyst to support and advance a complex enterprise ERP environment within a higher education organization. This position will serve as a functional subject matter expert for PeopleSoft Campus Solutions, with a primary focus on the Campus Community module, while supporting broader ERP projects, upgrades, implementations, and continuous improvement initiatives.

The Functional Business Analyst will serve as a liaison between business stakeholders and technical teams, translating operational requirements into clear functional specifications and sustainable system solutions. The role combines approximately 40% operational system maintenance and production support with 60% project and strategic initiative work.

Key initiatives include system upgrades, accessibility improvements, security enhancements, process automation, implementation of delivered PeopleSoft functionality, and efforts to reduce unnecessary system customizations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the functional subject matter expert for PeopleSoft Campus Solutions Campus Community.

  • Configure, maintain, and support delivered PeopleSoft functionality within the enterprise ERP environment.

  • Support Campus Solutions data models and functionality associated with institutional processes and applicable regulatory requirements.

  • Troubleshoot functional and system issues and collaborate with technical resources to identify, test, and implement appropriate solutions.

  • Support the integrity, reliability, security, maintainability, and ongoing performance of ERP functionality.

  • Provide functional and technical guidance to departments utilizing enterprise applications.

  • Gather, analyze, validate, and document business and functional requirements.

  • Translate business requirements into functional specifications, use cases, workflows, process maps, and other SDLC documentation.

  • Evaluate existing business processes and identify opportunities for system, workflow, and operational improvements.

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, developers, technical teams, and project resources to ensure requirements are clearly understood and successfully implemented.

  • Analyze complex datasets using SQL to support troubleshooting, requirements validation, testing, and business decision-making.

  • Lead or contribute to ERP projects, system upgrades, implementations, enhancements, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Support projects focused on improving enterprise system accessibility, security, maintainability, and user experience.

  • Participate in initiatives to reduce unnecessary customizations and expand the use of delivered PeopleSoft capabilities.

  • Implement and support PeopleSoft/Oracle functionality including Page and Field Configurator, Data Masking, and Track Changes.

  • Coordinate multiple projects, priorities, and deliverables within a project-driven enterprise environment.

  • Develop and execute functional testing plans and support system, integration, regression, and user acceptance testing activities.

  • Support documentation, implementation, deployment, and post-production activities associated with system changes.

  • Identify opportunities to reduce manual processes through workflow improvements and automation.

  • Apply AI-assisted tools where appropriate to support business analysis, documentation, process improvement, and data-informed decision-making.

  • Evaluate practical applications of commercially available AI and productivity technologies within established organizational, security, and compliance requirements.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related discipline.

  • An equivalent combination of relevant education and professional experience may be considered.

  • Master’s degree in a related discipline is preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience working with PeopleSoft, including Campus Solutions, HCM, Financials, or a comparable PeopleSoft enterprise environment.

  • Experience gathering, analyzing, and documenting business and functional requirements.

  • Experience developing functional specifications, use cases, workflows, process documentation, and other SDLC deliverables.

  • Demonstrated experience supporting enterprise applications in a production environment.

  • Experience participating in or leading ERP upgrades, implementations, enhancements, or related technology projects.

  • Experience with PeopleSoft Campus Solutions Campus Community is strongly preferred.

  • Higher education, student information system, or student lifecycle experience is preferred.

  • Experience supporting accessibility, security, automation, or ERP optimization initiatives is preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Advanced SQL skills with a strong understanding of relational database concepts, data structures, and data analysis.

  • Strong functional knowledge of enterprise ERP systems and business analysis methodologies.

  • Experience configuring and supporting delivered PeopleSoft functionality.

  • Familiarity with PeopleSoft security, administration, and integration technologies, including Integration Broker, web services, and file layouts, is preferred.

  • Experience with PeopleSoft Fluid user interfaces is preferred.

  • Familiarity with PeopleSoft capabilities such as Page and Field Configurator, Data Masking, and Track Changes is preferred.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Visio, or comparable productivity and process-mapping applications.

  • Working knowledge of AI-enabled productivity tools and their application to requirements analysis, documentation, automation, data analysis, or process improvement.

  • Familiarity with WCAG accessibility standards is preferred.

  • Knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements relevant to higher education environments, including FERPA, Title IV, IPEDS, Clery Act requirements, and applicable ISO standards, is preferred.

Certifications

  • CBAP (Certified Business Analysis Professional) certification is preferred.

  • PMP (Project Management Professional) certification is preferred.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
