Job Title: IT Project Manager I/II
Location: Remote (Syracuse, Buffalo, Rochester, NY)
Job Type: Full-time, direct hire
Salary Range: Annually depending on experience
About the Role
The IT Project Manager I/II is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering technology, business, and operational projects across the enterprise. Reporting to IT leadership, this role supports initiatives from initial concept and business case development through implementation and close-out. The position requires strong project delivery discipline, stakeholder management, cross-functional coordination, and the ability to guide teams within a structured project framework.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Execution
• Lead matrixed project teams from initiation through completion.
• Develop, manage, and maintain detailed project plans, schedules, milestones, and deliverables.
• Oversee project financials, including cost tracking, resource allocation, and budget control.
• Monitor and manage project scope, requirements changes, and schedule impacts.
• Create contingency and mitigation plans to support evolving needs and constraints.
• Apply organizational estimation and planning tools to produce accurate work plans.
Issue Resolution & Governance
• Track and report the resolution of high-impact project issues.
• Escalate unresolved risks and roadblocks through established governance channels.
• Facilitate cross-functional progress reviews and assist in problem resolution.
• Establish and maintain project metrics to measure performance and outcomes.
Operational & Methodology Expertise
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of delivery frameworks, tools, and emerging technologies.
• Evaluate quality of work products to ensure adherence to project standards.
• Identify process improvement opportunities and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Vendor, Partner & Stakeholder Management
• Coordinate activities across internal IT teams, business partners, vendors, and consultants.
• Provide guidance based on organizational structures, policies, and technical requirements.
• Serve as liaison between business users and IT teams, supporting requirement clarification and negotiation.
• Represent IT leadership in project meetings, committees, and workgroups.
Leadership & Organizational Impact
• Provide coaching and support to project participants across functional teams.
• Act as a change leader, helping guide stakeholders through transitions.
• Mentor junior project managers on methodology, organizational structure, and best practices.
• Assist with workload coordination across multiple PMs on larger initiatives.
• Prepare and present project proposals, cost estimates, and change requests to leadership.
• Contribute to ongoing enhancements of project delivery processes.
Qualifications
Education
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, or a related field
– Four additional years of related experience may substitute for the degree requirement.
Experience
• Eight years of related professional experience.
• PMP certification preferred
– Three years of PM experience may be substituted for certification.
• Experience delivering projects using multiple methodologies (waterfall, agile, SDLC).
• Experience leading projects involving multi-phased or multi-deployment schedules.
• Experience in IT, healthcare, insurance, or other regulated environments is a plus.
Technical Skills
• Strong abilities in scope, schedule, risk, and budget management.
• Analytical and business process expertise; proficiency with process-improvement tools.
• Strong documentation and written communication skills.
• Experience with project management tools and reporting platforms.
Certifications
• PMP preferred (or equivalent demonstrated project management experience).
Soft Skills
• Excellent communication skills across technical and executive audiences.
• Strong leadership competencies and ability to influence cross-functional teams.
• Composure and professionalism when navigating complex or high-pressure environments.
• Writing sample may be required.
