Job Title: IT Specialist II
Location: Watertown, NY (in-person)
Job Type: Full-time, direct hire
Salary Range: $59,000–$64,000 annually, depending on experience
Work Schedule: 100% on-site, 5 days per week. Normal business hours.
About the Opportunity
We are recruiting for a well-established, privately held organization with an internationally recognized consumer brand and a long history of stability and growth. The company continues to invest in its technology environment and maintains a modern, evolving IT infrastructure with an emphasis on keeping its technology current.
This is not a traditional, solely ticket-driven Level II support position. The role is designed for an IT professional who enjoys being a generalist and wants exposure beyond day-to-day end-user troubleshooting. In addition to serving as an escalation point for the Level I Help Desk, this person will support IT projects and technology initiatives across the department, gaining hands-on exposure to systems, infrastructure, Microsoft technologies, networking, security, and new technology implementations.
You’ll be joining a collaborative internal IT team where responsibilities are not heavily siloed. Team members have opportunities to contribute to projects across the IT department, bring forward ideas and recommendations, and develop experience with technologies outside their immediate area of responsibility.
For someone who has built a foundation in IT support and is looking for the next step, this role offers the opportunity to expand into broader systems administration, infrastructure, networking, security, and project-based IT work while working alongside an experienced internal technology team.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a Level II escalation point for technical issues that cannot be resolved by the Level I Help Desk team.
- Support and own IT projects and technology initiatives, including system deployments, infrastructure improvements, technology migrations, security initiatives, and department-wide technology rollouts.
- Collaborate with IT team members across systems, infrastructure, security, networking, and end-user technology.
- Take ownership of assigned projects and technical initiatives from planning through implementation and follow-up.
- Troubleshoot and resolve desktop, laptop, hardware, software, application, connectivity, account access, and general infrastructure issues.
- Administer and support Microsoft 365 technologies, including Office applications, Exchange, SharePoint, and Teams.
- Assist with Active Directory user administration, permissions, account provisioning, and access-related issues.
- Coordinate and support hardware and software deployments, technology refreshes, and new user equipment.
- Assist with server, network, and general infrastructure administration and maintenance.
- Support virtualized server environments, including exposure to VMware and Hyper-V.
- Participate in cybersecurity and security-awareness initiatives, including technology improvements and user-focused security programs.
- Maintain IT hardware and software inventory and assist with software licensing compliance.
- Support communication technologies, including phone systems, mobile devices, and related equipment.
- Assist with IT needs across a multi-site environment.
- Gain exposure to both traditional corporate IT systems and other technologies supporting the organization’s broader operations.
- Identify opportunities to improve existing technology, processes, and the overall end-user experience.
- Provide occasional after-hours or weekend support when required for projects, maintenance, or critical issues.
Qualifications
Experience
- 2+ years of hands-on IT support experience.
- Experience in a Level II support, desktop support, junior systems administrator, IT generalist, or similar technical role.
- Experience troubleshooting Windows desktops/laptops, hardware, software, applications, user accounts, and connectivity issues.
- Experience handling technical issues beyond basic Level I troubleshooting and password resets.
- Experience with or exposure to Microsoft 365 and Active Directory administration.
- General knowledge of networking, servers, infrastructure, and systems administration.
- Exposure to server maintenance, network support, or infrastructure administration is preferred.
- Exposure to VMware, Hyper-V, or another virtualized server environment is a plus.
- Experience working in a larger organization, multi-site environment, or internal corporate IT department is beneficial.
Education & Certifications
- Degree in Information Technology, Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related discipline is preferred.
- A combination of relevant education, certifications, and hands-on professional experience will also be considered.
- Microsoft, CompTIA, networking, systems, or other IT-related certifications are a plus but not required.
What We’re Looking For
Beyond technical experience, the team is looking for someone who is curious, collaborative, and interested in understanding how the broader IT environment works.
The right person will:
- Have strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Be comfortable taking ownership of both technical issues and assigned projects.
- Communicate professionally with end users, Help Desk staff, IT leadership, and other internal teams.
- Be receptive to feedback while also being willing to offer constructive ideas and recommendations.
- Enjoy working in a collaborative environment rather than a highly siloed support structure.
- Be interested in learning new technologies and taking on greater technical responsibility over time.
- Be comfortable working in a hands-on, fully on-site environment.
- Be able to balance escalated support needs with longer-term projects and technology initiatives.
Why Join Us?
This is a strong opportunity for an IT professional who wants to move beyond a traditional ticket-based support role. You’ll gain hands-on exposure to IT projects, systems, infrastructure, security, and new technologies while working with a collaborative internal team that supports long-term growth and development.
