Job Title: Senior Communications System Engineer
Location: Washington, DC (Onsite)
Job Type: Full-time, direct hire
Salary Range: $130,000 – $165,000 annually depending on experience
About the Role:
A respected aviation engineering and consulting firm is seeking a Communications System Engineer to lead efforts supporting the implementation of federal Air/Ground communications and fiber optic systems. This onsite role in Washington, DC will focus on ensuring training program compliance with federal aviation standards, developing associated documentation, and coordinating closely with stakeholders across agencies and institutions. The position is ideal for an experienced engineer with deep knowledge of FAA training requirements and communication technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review technical acquisition documentation for Air/Ground radio and telecommunications systems to verify alignment with federal maintenance training standards
- Collaborate with federal stakeholders and academic institutions to develop or source training content
- Ensure acquisition documents comply with FAA policy and include accurate regulatory references
- Develop and maintain training schedules in alignment with program rollout plans
- Provide subject matter expertise on required training deliverables for system deployment
- Assist in the creation of training materials, including manuals, guides, and presentations
- Coordinate and, when necessary, lead training sessions alongside internal or contracted training personnel
- Facilitate post-training evaluations and feedback processes to assess training effectiveness
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related technical field
Experience:
- 15+ years of experience in communications systems engineering, particularly with radio and telecom systems in the federal aviation domain
- Strong familiarity with FAA training standards and documentation protocols
- Demonstrated success in developing and implementing technical training programs for federal systems
Technical Skills:
- Expertise in both legacy and modern federal communication technologies
- Experience working with Air/Ground and fiber optic systems
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and technical documentation tools
Certifications:
- Relevant industry certifications (preferred but not required)
Soft Skills:
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders
- Strong organizational and time management capabilities
